MLCO: Markdown as Living Cybernetic Organism

Transforming Static Text into Structured, Theorem-Governed Knowledge Organisms

Public Status Boundary. Markdown as Living Cybernetic Organism (MLCO) is an applied systems architecture within the Fabrica ecosystem. It models text manuscripts not as inert typography, but as executable, invariant-bounded relational trees capable of bi-directional synchronization with formal theorem checkers, provenance ledgers, and interactive runtimes. It does not assert autonomous cognitive agency or external software patent claims.

1. Architectural Thesis: From Inert Text to Living Graphs

Traditional publishing models treat technical manuscripts as flat, dead-end serialization targets (PDF, static HTML). MLCO restructures technical literature as a living cybernetic state graph:

graph TD
    A["Raw Markdown Manuscript (.md)"] --> B["Unified AST Compiler"]
    B --> C["Semantic Invariant Filter"]
    C --> D["Knowledge Kernel Binding (KBI)"]
    D --> E["ScrollDNA Provenance Anchor"]
    E --> F["Dynamic Knowledge Substrate"]

    F --> G["Static Editorial Reader (VitePress)"]
    F --> H["Interactive Proof Explorer"]
    F --> I["Autonomous Validator Audit Loop"]

Under MLCO, every document node preserves its AST provenance, mathematical dependency graph, citation roots, and theorem-validation state throughout all compilation pipelines.

2. The Formal MLCO Tuple

At the formal systems level, an MLCO document entity is defined as the 5-tuple:

MLCO=(Mast,Iinv,Kkernel,Pprov,Eexec)

where:

SymbolComponentFormal Definition & Operational Role
MastAbstract Syntax ManifoldLossless semantic AST representing headings, equations, citations, code blocks, and diagrams.
IinvInvariant Constraint SetImmutable epistemic rules (e.g., zero circular proofs, explicit claim boundaries, resolved URI references).
KkernelKernel Dispatch LayerRouting interface binding document sections to specialized KBI kernels (Source, Boundary, Validation).
PprovProvenance TupleCryptographic hash lineage compliant with the ScrollDNA identity schema.
EexecExecutable SurfaceInteractive components, KaTeX mathematical renderers, and live simulation sandboxes.

3. Four Operational Pillars of MLCO

1. Structured Manuscript Grammar

  • Strict AST Typing: Headers, formulas, code snippets, and callouts adhere to deterministic schema boundaries.
  • Relational Hyperlinks: All internal links resolve against canonical route registries rather than brittle relative filepaths.

2. Epistemic Invariant Verification

  • Automated Claim Boundary Validation: Prevents unwarranted elevation of theoretical conjectures into empirical facts.
  • Symbol & Formula Consistency: Equations are cross-referenced across the Mathematical Formula Register.

3. Deep Provenance & Audit Trails

  • Cryptographic Lineage: Each section carries a content digest linked to its authorial commit in the repository.
  • Seal State Tracking: Documents track their formal status (canonical-core, formal-proof, architecture-spec).

4. Continuous Reader Flow & Interactive Delivery

  • Multi-Modal Compilation: Compiles seamlessly into static HTML, interactive VitePress reader routes, and machine-readable JSON corpus extracts.
  • Zero-Friction Navigation: Standardized continuation pathways and outline depths across all document nodes.

4. Integration Across the Institutional Corpus
